The 304 stainless steel scrubber tower is a wet gas scrubbing device used to remove acid mist, alkaline gas, SO₂, HCl, dust and other soluble pollutants from industrial exhaust gas. It is also called a stainless steel scrubber, gas washing tower, spray scrubber, exhaust gas scrubber or wet scrubber tower.

Exhaust gas enters the tower from the bottom or side and flows upward through the spray and packing section. Absorption liquid such as water, NaOH solution or process liquid is sprayed from the top through nozzles, forming a liquid film on the packing surface. Pollutants in the gas phase are absorbed, neutralized or captured through gas-liquid contact, and the purified gas passes through a demister before discharge.

The tower body is made of 304 stainless steel, which provides higher structural strength, better temperature resistance and longer service life than plastic towers when treating high-temperature, mildly corrosive or continuous-operation exhaust gas.

Structure & Working Principle

The scrubber tower is a vertical cylindrical vessel made of 304 stainless steel, with gas inlet, gas outlet, inspection door, drain connection and supporting structure. Exhaust gas flows through the tower while absorption liquid is circulated by a pump and sprayed through nozzles.

Inside the tower, the packing layer increases gas-liquid contact area and improves absorption efficiency for acid mist, alkaline gas and soluble pollutants. The demister section removes entrained droplets from purified gas to reduce carryover and downstream corrosion. The circulation tank collects absorption liquid for reuse, with optional pH monitoring and dosing system to maintain stable neutralization performance.

Material Selection Guidance

304 stainless steel is a cost-effective option for scrubber towers handling mildly corrosive, elevated-temperature or low-chloride exhaust gas. It provides good general corrosion resistance and stable mechanical strength, making it suitable for many chemical, electroplating, metal surface treatment and manufacturing exhaust gas applications.

For exhaust gas with higher chloride content, strong acid mist or long-term wet corrosion, 316L or 2205 stainless steel is usually more suitable. 316L offers better chloride resistance due to molybdenum content, while 2205 duplex stainless steel provides higher strength and excellent resistance to chloride pitting and stress corrosion cracking. Material selection should be based on gas composition, temperature, humidity, chloride concentration and expected service life.

The tower is manufactured from 304 stainless steel, SUS304 or 1.4301 grade, in vertical scrubber tower or spray scrubber configuration.
