Product Overview

The plastic spray tower is a wet scrubbing vessel made from corrosion-resistant plastic materials, mainly polypropylene, PVC and FRP. It is also called a PP spray tower, plastic wet scrubber, acid mist scrubber tower, plastic absorption tower or plastic exhaust gas washing tower.

Exhaust gas enters the tower from the bottom or side and flows upward through the spray and packing section. Circulating washing liquid is sprayed from the top through nozzles, forming a liquid film on the packing surface. Acid mist, alkali mist, dust and water-soluble pollutants are absorbed and neutralized through gas-liquid contact, and the purified gas passes through a demister before discharge. Typical acid and alkali gas removal efficiency can reach 80–99 percent depending on pollutant concentration, liquid-to-gas ratio and tower configuration.

Plastic spray towers are widely used where strong acid or alkali corrosion is present and exhaust gas temperature is moderate. They offer good chemical resistance, light weight, low maintenance cost and competitive life-cycle cost for many industrial exhaust gas treatment systems.

Why Plastic Spray Tower

Plastic spray towers are especially suitable for treating acidic and alkaline exhaust gas from plating, pickling, chemical processing, laboratory ventilation, electronic manufacturing, pharmaceutical and surface treatment applications. Compared with carbon steel, plastic materials provide much better resistance to wet acid and alkali corrosion. Compared with stainless steel, plastic towers are usually more cost-effective for strong acid mist service, provided that exhaust gas temperature remains within the material limit.

PP is the most common material for plastic spray towers because it resists hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid and many alkaline gases under normal temperature conditions. PVC is suitable for lower-temperature applications, while FRP provides higher mechanical strength and better performance for larger towers or more demanding corrosion environments.

Structure & Working Principle

The plastic spray tower is usually a vertical cylindrical vessel equipped with a gas inlet, gas outlet, spray system, packing layer, demister, circulation tank, drain outlet and inspection door. Exhaust gas flows upward while washing liquid is circulated downward, forming counter-current contact.

The packing layer increases gas-liquid contact area and improves absorption efficiency. The spray system distributes washing liquid through corrosion-resistant nozzles, and the demister removes entrained droplets before the gas leaves the tower. The circulation tank collects washing liquid for reuse, with optional pH monitoring, dosing and filtration systems.

For horizontal or space-limited installations, the tower can also be designed in a horizontal configuration, allowing lower installation height and easier maintenance access while maintaining effective gas-liquid contact.

Typical Specifications

The plastic spray tower is manufactured in vertical or horizontal configuration, with diameter, height, wall thickness and internal layout customized according to gas volume and treatment requirements. Diameter is commonly designed between 300 mm and 3000 mm, and gas flow capacity can range from several hundred to tens of thousands of cubic meters per hour depending on application scale.

Main components include plastic shell, packing layer, spray nozzles, spray piping, demister, circulation pump, drain outlet, inspection door and supporting structure. The number of spray layers, packing type, liquid-to-gas ratio and demister configuration should be determined according to pollutant concentration, emission limit and integration with downstream treatment equipment.
