Spray Tower for Wood Processing Plant

    Product Overview

The spray tower for wood processing plants is a wet pretreatment vessel used to remove wood dust, resin particles, paint mist, moisture and water-soluble organic components from woodworking, furniture, panel board and coating exhaust streams. It is also called a wood dust spray tower, furniture plant scrubber, wood processing wet scrubber, paint mist scrubber or VOC pretreatment tower.

Exhaust gas enters the tower from the bottom or side and flows upward through the spray and packing section. Water or alkaline solution is sprayed from the top, forming a liquid film on the packing surface. Wood dust, sticky resin particles, paint mist and water-soluble organics are captured through gas-liquid contact, and the purified gas passes through a demister before entering downstream treatment units.

For most wood processing and furniture coating applications, the spray tower mainly serves as a pretreatment stage. It cools, washes and removes particulates and sticky pollutants, helping protect downstream activated carbon adsorbers, RTO, RCO, catalytic oxidation or biological treatment systems.

Why Stainless Steel Spray Tower for Wood Processing

Wood processing exhaust gas often contains wood dust, resin particles, paint mist, moisture and temperature fluctuation. In furniture, panel board, plywood and coating lines, sticky resin and paint mist can cause scaling, blocking and material degradation over time.

Stainless steel spray towers provide higher mechanical strength, better temperature resistance and longer service life than plastic towers, especially when exhaust gas temperature is elevated, the environment is humid, or the system requires frequent cleaning. 304 stainless steel is suitable for general wood dust and paint mist washing, while 316L stainless steel is recommended when chloride ions, acid mist carryover or corrosive condensate are present.

    Structure & Working Principle

The wood processing spray tower is a vertical cylindrical vessel made of stainless steel, with gas inlet, gas outlet, inspection door, drain connection and supporting structure. Exhaust gas flows through the tower while circulating liquid is sprayed through nozzles.

Inside the tower, the packing layer increases gas-liquid contact area and improves capture efficiency for wood dust, resin particles, paint mist and water-soluble organics. The demister section removes entrained droplets from purified gas to reduce carryover and downstream corrosion. The circulation tank collects washing liquid for reuse, with optional filtration, oil separation, pH monitoring and dosing systems.

For high paint mist or resin particle loads, a cyclone or swirl separation section can be added upstream of the packing layer to improve anti-blocking performance and reduce maintenance frequency.

    Typical Specifications

The tower is manufactured from stainless steel in vertical spray tower or scrubber tower configuration. Diameter is typically customized between 800 mm and 4000 mm, and height is determined according to packing height, spray stages and site conditions. Wall thickness is generally designed between 2 mm and 4 mm depending on diameter, structural load and process requirements.

Internal parts include packing, spray nozzles, demister, circulation pump, piping, inspection ports and supporting structures. Exact dimensions, number of spray layers, packing type and connection configuration should be determined according to gas volume, pollutant concentration, temperature, humidity and integration with downstream treatment equipment.

    Typical Applications

Stainless steel spray towers for wood processing are widely used in furniture manufacturing, panel board production, plywood and OSB lines, wood drying and thermal treatment, sanding and grinding workshops, wood coating and painting lines, adhesive curing areas, rubber and plastic wood processing, as well as industrial odor control systems. They are commonly arranged upstream of activated carbon adsorbers, RTO, RCO, catalytic oxidation, biological treatment or WESP systems to remove wood dust, resin particles, paint mist, moisture and water-soluble organics before final VOC treatment.

    Manufacturing & Company Strength

Wuxi Xinchangyuan Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd. specializes in the design and manufacture of stainless steel spray towers, absorption towers, alkali scrubbers, wet electrostatic precipitators, anode modules and anode tube bundles. Our facility is equipped with plate rolling, laser cutting, CNC forming, automatic welding, surface treatment and module assembly capabilities, supporting both standard and customized stainless steel process equipment for industrial exhaust gas treatment.

We provide engineering support from material selection and structural design to fabrication, assembly and installation guidance. Each wood processing spray tower is manufactured according to project gas composition, dust and paint mist load, temperature, corrosion level and site layout. Our team can integrate spray towers with wet electrostatic precipitators, demisters, circulation systems and VOC treatment lines, helping industrial customers achieve stable pretreatment performance and reliable long-term operation.

    FAQ

What is a spray tower used for in wood processing plants?
It is mainly used as a wet pretreatment unit to remove wood dust, resin particles, paint mist, moisture and water-soluble organics from exhaust gas before downstream VOC treatment.

Can a spray tower remove all VOCs from wood processing exhaust?
Not always. A spray tower is highly effective for dust, paint mist, resin particles and water-soluble organics, but low-solubility VOCs usually require downstream treatment such as activated carbon adsorption, RTO or RCO.

When should 304 be upgraded to 316L or 2205?
If the exhaust gas contains chloride ions, acid mist carryover, corrosive condensate or long-term wet corrosion, 316L or 2205 stainless steel is usually more reliable than 304.

Can it be used together with a WESP system?
Yes. A spray tower can be arranged upstream of a WESP or other polishing equipment to reduce particulate, mist and moisture load and help downstream systems operate more stably.
