Stainless Steel Mist Eliminator Tower
The stainless steel mist eliminator tower is a gas-liquid separation vessel used to remove entrained droplets, acid mist, water mist and fine particulates from wet industrial exhaust gas. It is also called a mist eliminator tower, demister tower, droplet separator tower, stainless steel mist eliminator or acid mist eliminator tower.
In wet scrubbing, absorption and desulfurization systems, purified gas often carries fine liquid droplets after passing through spray and packing sections. If these droplets are not removed, they may cause downstream corrosion, salt deposition, fan erosion, visible plume and unstable operation of polishing equipment. The mist eliminator tower intercepts and separates these droplets through wire mesh, vane plate, cyclone or structures, allowing dry and clean gas to discharge.
Stainless steel construction provides higher mechanical strength, better temperature resistance and longer service life than plastic or FRP mist eliminators, especially for high-humidity, high-temperature and corrosive wet gas streams.
Mist eliminator towers are typically installed downstream of spray towers, absorption towers, scrubber towers, desulfurization towers and wet electrostatic precipitators. The gas stream contains moisture, acid mist, salt mist, chemical condensate and fine droplets, which can accelerate corrosion and scaling.
Stainless steel mist eliminator towers are suitable for continuous wet operation and can be fabricated from 304, 316L, 2205 or 254SMO depending on chloride concentration, acid mist load and operating temperature. Compared with plastic mist eliminators, stainless steel towers offer better structural rigidity, higher temperature tolerance and more reliable long-term performance in demanding industrial environments.
The stainless steel mist eliminator tower is a vertical or horizontal cylindrical vessel equipped with gas inlet, gas outlet, mist elimination section, drainage system, inspection door and supporting structure. Wet gas enters the tower and flows through the mist elimination zone, where entrained droplets are captured by inertial impaction, interception, coalescence and gravity separation.
Common internal mist elimination types include:
Wire mesh mist eliminator: suitable for fine droplet removal, typically effective for droplets above 3–5 μm.
Vane plate mist eliminator: suitable for high gas flow and droplet-laden gas with moderate solids content.
Cyclone / swirl plate mist eliminator: uses rotational flow and centrifugal force for gas-liquid separation.
Combined mist elimination section: wire mesh, vane plate and drainage structures can be combined according to process requirements.
Separated liquid drains to the bottom outlet or returns to the circulation tank. The tower can be designed as a standalone mist elimination unit or integrated into an existing scrubber or absorption tower as an upgraded demisting section.
The mist eliminator tower is manufactured from stainless steel in vertical or compact tower configuration. Diameter, height, wall thickness and internal mist elimination type are customized according to gas volume, droplet load, temperature, pressure drop requirement and installation conditions.
Main components include stainless steel shell, wire mesh or vane plate mist eliminator, support grid, drainage pipe, inspection port, gas inlet/outlet and supporting structure. Exact design should be determined according to upstream equipment type, gas velocity, liquid carryover and downstream emission or equipment protection requirements.
Stainless steel mist eliminator towers are widely used in chemical acid gas scrubbing, petrochemical wet gas treatment, pharmaceutical exhaust gas washing, metal surface treatment and pickling lines, flue gas desulfurization systems, waste incineration gas cleaning, semiconductor facility exhaust treatment, marine scrubber systems, and as a polishing stage downstream of spray towers, absorption towers and WESP systems. They help reduce acid mist emission, protect downstream fans and ducts, and improve overall wet gas treatment stability.
Wuxi Xinchangyuan Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd. specializes in the design and manufacture of stainless steel environmental and process equipment, including wet electrostatic precipitators, absorption towers, spray towers, scrubber towers, anode modules and anode tube bundles. Our facility is equipped with plate rolling, laser cutting, CNC forming, automatic welding, surface treatment and module assembly capabilities, supporting both standard and customized stainless steel equipment for industrial exhaust gas treatment.
We provide engineering support from material selection and structural design to fabrication, assembly and installation guidance. Each stainless steel mist eliminator tower is manufactured according to project gas composition, moisture content, acid mist load, temperature, corrosion level and site layout. Our team can integrate mist eliminator towers with wet electrostatic precipitators, absorption towers, scrubber towers and circulation systems, helping industrial customers achieve stable droplet removal and reliable long-term operation.
What is a stainless steel mist eliminator tower used for?
It is used to remove entrained droplets, acid mist, water mist and fine particulates from wet industrial exhaust gas before discharge or downstream treatment.
How is it different from a spray tower or absorption tower?
A spray tower or absorption tower mainly removes pollutants through gas-liquid contact, while a mist eliminator tower focuses on separating liquid droplets and mist from purified gas to prevent carryover.
Which stainless steel grade should be selected?
304 is suitable for general wet gas; 316L is recommended for acid mist and chloride environments; 2205 or 254SMO can be selected for high-chloride or severe corrosion conditions.
Can it be installed as a standalone unit?
Yes. It can be designed as a standalone mist eliminator tower or integrated into an existing scrubber, absorption tower or WESP system as an upgraded demisting section.
