Custom 304 stainless steel absorption tower for acid mist, SO₂, HCl and alkaline gas treatment. Wet scrubbing tower with spray, packing, demister and circulation system, customizable for chemical, electroplating, metallurgical and industrial exhaust gas purification.
304 Stainless Steel Absorption Tower
The 304 stainless steel absorption tower is a wet scrubbing vessel used to remove acid mist, alkaline gas, SO₂, HCl, NH₃ and other soluble pollutants from industrial exhaust gas. It is also called a stainless steel scrubber tower, spray tower, washing tower or acid mist absorption tower.
Exhaust gas enters the tower from the bottom or side and flows upward through the packing or spray section. Absorption liquid such as NaOH solution is sprayed from the top, forming a liquid film on the packing surface. Pollutants in the gas phase are absorbed or neutralized through gas-liquid contact, and the purified gas passes through a demister before discharge.
The tower body is made of 304 stainless steel, providing better corrosion resistance, higher structural strength and longer service life than PP or FRP towers in mildly corrosive and elevated-temperature flue gas conditions.
304 stainless steel absorption towers are suitable for industrial exhaust gas treatment where mild acidic or alkaline gases are present and higher mechanical strength is required. Compared with plastic or FRP towers, 304 stainless steel offers better temperature resistance, higher structural stability and more reliable long-term performance under continuous operation.
The smooth inner surface of stainless steel helps reduce scaling and improves liquid distribution inside the tower. This supports stable absorption efficiency, easier maintenance and more consistent emission performance. The tower can also be integrated with spray systems, packing layers, demisters, circulation tanks and pH dosing systems according to process requirements.
The tower body is a vertical cylindrical vessel made of 304 stainless steel, with gas inlet, gas outlet, inspection door and drain connection. Exhaust gas flows through the tower while absorption liquid is circulated by a pump and sprayed through nozzles.
Inside the tower, the packing layer increases gas-liquid contact area and improves absorption efficiency for acid mist and soluble gases. The demister section removes entrained droplets from purified gas to reduce carryover and downstream corrosion. The circulation tank collects absorption liquid for reuse, with optional pH monitoring and dosing system to maintain stable neutralization performance.
304 stainless steel is a cost-effective option for absorption towers handling mildly corrosive exhaust gas. It provides good general corrosion resistance and stable mechanical strength, making it suitable for low-chloride acid mist, alkaline gas and hot exhaust gas treatment.
For exhaust gas with higher chloride content, strong acid mist or long-term wet corrosion, 316L or 2205 stainless steel is usually more suitable. 316L offers better chloride resistance due to molybdenum content, while 2205 duplex stainless steel provides higher strength and excellent resistance to chloride pitting and stress corrosion cracking. Material selection should be based on gas composition, temperature, humidity, chloride concentration and expected service life.
The tower is manufactured from 304 stainless steel, SUS304 or 1.4301 grade, in vertical absorption tower or scrubber tower configuration. Diameter is typically customized between 800 mm and 4000 mm, and height is determined according to packing height, spray stages and site conditions. Wall thickness is generally designed between 2 mm and 4 mm depending on diameter, structural load and process requirements.
Internal parts include packing, spray nozzles, demister, circulation pump, piping and supporting structures. Exact dimensions, number of spray layers, packing type and connection configuration should be determined according to gas volume, pollutant concentration, temperature, humidity and installation conditions.
304 stainless steel absorption towers are widely used in chemical plants, electroplating lines, metal surface treatment facilities, pickling lines, semiconductor and electronic manufacturing, pharmaceutical and food processing, metallurgical and sintering flue gas pretreatment, as well as boiler and kiln exhaust gas washing systems. They can also be arranged upstream of WESP systems, activated carbon adsorbers or RTO units to reduce acid mist, dust and moisture load before downstream polishing.

Each tower is manufactured according to project gas composition, temperature, corrosion level and site layout. Our team can integrate absorption towers with wet electrostatic precipitators, demisters, circulation systems and exhaust gas purification lines, helping industrial customers achieve stable emission performance and reliable long-term operation.
What is a 304 stainless steel absorption tower used for?
It is used to remove acid mist, alkaline gas, SO₂, HCl and other soluble pollutants from industrial exhaust gas through wet scrubbing and chemical absorption.
When should 304 be upgraded to 316L or 2205?
If the exhaust gas contains high chloride ions, strong acid mist or long-term wet corrosion, 316L or 2205 is usually more reliable than 304.
Can the absorption tower be customized?
Yes. Tower diameter, height, wall thickness, packing type, spray layers, demister and circulation system can be customized according to actual process conditions.
Can it be used together with a WESP system?
Yes. An absorption tower can be arranged upstream of a WESP to reduce acid mist, dust and moisture load, helping the downstream polishing system operate more stably.
